Bottom   :  Previous group   :  Back to area

South-West (inner) : Unthank

Division 5 : Area 1

Vauxhall : group 5

. . . 9 pubs in this group . . . 1 still serving.

Meaning of symbols

This area includes any remaining bits of the "New City",
West of Union Street (Group 4).
It also covers the (later) development to the NorthWest
of "New City", terminating at the Unthank Road boundary.

It goes no further outwards from the City than
Somerleyton Street and Norfolk Street.
The "spine" road, Rupert Street, is shared
with Group 6 (Trinity).

  But, anyway, Rupert is bearly adequate as a title !

The nine pubs were severely reduced -

  • first by the Compensation Act (3 pubs);
  • then by the bombing in WWII (2 pubs);
  • and 'early' closures i.e. by 1961 (2 pubs)

Listing
The pubs are listed, very roughly, from the Inner Ring Road outwards.
