Notes ..

The pub closed at the end of 1999 to permit a major
re-furbishment, reputed to have doubled or trebled the
effective size of the pub and cost half a million pounds.
The 'new'  "Restaurant Pub" was re-opened in March 2000.
Food was still available all day in June 2002.

A booking for 17 people in July 2009 resulted in a
very positive report, particularly on the food side.
Four handpumps for Real Ale were, sadly, dominated
by the Suffolk Mafia; but there was Woodforde's
Wherry on one of the pumps - to save the day.

The pub closed on 8th January 2010. It had been run by
Irvin and Jo Verret, who in July 2008 returned from
retirement (in Florida) to rescue the business which
they had previously run, from October 1999.

Their return followed the bankruptcy of the previous
tenants, Richard Jacques and Deborah Williams -
the Verret's daughter.
It appears that the Verret parents met a similar, sad fate.

The new landlords of the pub are
Simon Shimmon and Paul Thomas.
The pub has undergone yet another makeover for £100,000.
It has been repainted and redecorated inside. It has
a new kitchen, fixtures and fittings, and new signage.

The business partners are hoping to cash in
on a perceived gap in the market in the area.

Mr. Thomas said - There are not many pubs at
this end of town, so I think we will do well.
We want to create a family dining venue and we have
been recruiting new staff, with interviews last week.

It will also be affordable, which will be popular
after what happened in the Budget this week;
and we want it to be a tourist destination.

Both men have many years' experience in the pub and
leisure trade and were chefs in previous incarnations.
Mr. Shimmon will predominantly lead on the kitchen
side of the new business, while Mr. Thomas will be
front of house.

Mr. Thomas said - We want it to have a nice, warm,
breezy feel to it, and be somewhere where families
can come out for dinner and you can take your
girlfriend to, where they won't be any trouble.

While the pub is having a 'soft' re-opening on July 2nd,
Mr. Thomas said there would be a bigger re-opening
on August Bank Holiday, Monday, August 30, 2010.

Listed in Woodforde's Pub Guide June 2011.
