Stafford Arms : 35 Heigham Road

Notes ..

Alexandra Tavern : 16 Stafford Street
Notes ..

The current landlord, James Leslie ("Tiny") Little,
has been in place since Sept. 1986 and is famous
for his struggles against breweries; as well as for
long-distance rowing.

He completed a single-handed crossing of the Atlantic
in May 2005. A website records the events.

In February 2005 Adrian Hennessy reported
4 real ales on offer.
At least one Chalk Hill Brewery ale is usually
available, as the landlord is involved with that brewery.

A recent seating-area extension, and new toilets,
had not spoilt the traditional feel of the pub.

Listed in the 2004 and 2005 CAMRA
Good Beer Guides and the 2005 Good Pub Guide.

Advertised in 2008 : a wide selection of
real ales, guest beers, lager and cider.

There is a pool table and open log fire.

The number of real ales has grown to five by 2010.

The pub, especially the small, squarish front bar,
retains almost all of the atmosphere* of the mid-
Victorian age; having been largely overlooked by
the vandalising elements of Watney Mann Brewery.

It merits an early visit.

Early Sept. 2011 marks the quarter-century
of licensee James Little and wife Anita.
Celebrations on August Bank Holiday include
a charity event of great complexity/challenge.

* Including the half-height lace curtains
   in the original windows.

Belle Vue : 46 St. Philip's Road

Notes ..

Listed in the Woodforde's Pub Guide, June 2009.
Likewise in 2011.

Advertised in Sep. 2009 : breakfast, lunch
and evening meals.
Also Sunday lunch Midday to 6.00 p.m.
SKY and ESPN sports on all-new big screen.

Advertised Dec. 2010 : Tuesdays quiz nights.

February 2011 advert mentions meal deals
for "early birds".
Music from 7 to 10.30 p.m. on Sundays.

Denmark Arms : 43 Sandringham Road

Notes ..

Trevor Read became landlord around 1985.
His (?)partner June became owner in February 1995.
A couple of years later they "re-launched" the pub
under its new name.

But the new Sandringham Arms was very short-lived.
By April 1998 application had been made for conversion
to two residential units. It does seem that the Reads
preferred property development to being publicans.
