Dove : North Walsham Road
Research :

By 1869 the landlord and owner of the pub was
Henry Bacon, also a brickmaker.

The licence passed briefly to (his son?) Charles
in 1877, when Henry fell ill/died.
In July 1878 his widow Elizabeth took over
both licence and ownership.

However, the licence was handed over
in April the following year.
It is uncertain when Morgan's Brewery took
ownership, but it had been transferred by 1887.

In February 1908 the Licensing Justices accepted
Police advice that the pub was not required
for the needs of the neighbourhood
;
and they refused the licence.

The pub continued until 21st June 1909.
It does not appear to have been compensated
under the Compensation Act.

The area near the pubsite is currently known as
"Dovedale".

all taken at the same time.

A note in the licence register states that in 1878
Morgans were tenants from year to year.

The licence lapsed, with no application for renewal
being made at the General Annual Licensing Meeting
on 3rd September 1887.

George And Dragon : 32 School Lane - Sprowston
Research :

Originally stood close to the junction (South West
corner) of George Hill and the N. Walsham Road -
i.e. opposite the Woodman.

Building of the new premises in School Lane
commenced 1938, and was completed around
the turn of the year.

A full licence was granted in advance on 5th Feb. 1938.
The new house was occupied by January 1939.

The spirit licence of the Adam & Eve, Carleton Rode
was removed 10th May 1938, and the beerhouse
licence (of the old house) was surrendered
without compensation.

This was done to please the authorities,
and even everything up.

The 1938 building was one of an identical pair,
commissioned by S. & P. Brewery. The other was
the King's Arms in Mile Cross Road -
for which we have a picture.

Watney's closed the pub temporarily in June 1980.
