Windmill : Knox Rd. - Plumstead Road

Notes ..

This two-bar pub is virtually adjacent to Norwich Prison.

In July 2002 Adrian Hennessy found a cosy lounge;
with a more basic bar, with pool table.
The pub had regular live music.

There were two 'guest' ales, in addition to
3 from Greene King brewery.
The pub is Cask Marque accredited.

Morrison Lodge : 2 or 19 Harvey Lane

Notes ..

A proposal was published in June 2004,
for demolition and erection of 21 flats.
It is rather unclear when the pub closed for business.

Gordon : 88 Gordon Avenue

Notes ..
Punch Taverns described the sudden closure
of the pub as - the licensee has taken the decision
to leave the business.

A customer gives a graphic account of what
happened on 24th September 2011 :-
At about 10.30 p.m. landlords Rod and Anita Pugh
suddenly announced to customers that the pub would
close with immediate effect. Customers were asked to
leave the pub and staff were left in tears.

Many customers who did not know the news were
turning up at the pub as usual on Sunday, only to
look through the windows to find the place completely
stripped bare.

Neighbours living opposite the pub confirmed that a
team of removal men and trucks and vans worked
through the night to clear the place.

Punch Tavern's angle, including a statement that
they planned to reopen it as soon as possible,
seems to implicate the departing landlords in an
organised scam : to rob the pub of everything portable.

The later announcement (by 17th November) of a
sale of the premises, including the description :
an alternative use opportunity development,
subject to planning permission
, tends to put
the events into a rather different perspective.

The owners still forlornly insist that :
we are currently looking for a licensee to
keep the pub open until we find a buyer.

They managed to find a young couple to take
a temporary tenancy before Xmas 2011.
Reports as late as the end of March 2012 show
the pub is still open.
