City Centre : East of the Castle

Division 1 : Area 7

"Castle Ditches" : group 5

. . . 8 pubs in this group . . . none still serving.

Meaning of symbols

This area has been entirely destroyed; when the
Victorians greatly expanded the Cattle Market;,
(after 1861) and, subsequently, built the large
Agricultural Hall in 1882.

Prior to 1861/7, there were two sides to
Cattle Market Street ("Cattle Hill").

There were more buildings on the North side than
covered by the frontage of the present Castle Mall.

More properties existed to the West of Crown Road.
Holkham Street separated two of the three blocks
which were demolished.
