Red Lion Street : group 13

. . . 11 pubs in this group . . . none still serving.

Meaning of symbols

All the buildings in Red Lion Street are 20th Century :-
  • 1900, precisely, on the Eastern side
            (for tramway widening);
  • Post - WWII on the Western side.
(Unless, as with the so-called 'Millennium' in 2000,
you feel sure that the century started in 1901 !).
Evidently the street numbering was reversed in 1900.

A photograph of the Eastern side of the street
pre-1900 can be found in :- STANDLEY, Philip :
Norwich - in old postcards, Volume 3.
Also on pages 56 and 58 of CLUER & SHAW :
Former Norwich.
And on page 11 of Norwich Past & Present
(Geoffrey Goreham) Volume 1.
