Hector's House : 18 Bedford Street
Notes ..

A photographic record can be found on page 43 of :
KENT, Arnold : Norwich in Pictures.
This consists of a partial view, at the top of
Bridewell Alley, which shows that - in 1971 -
the establishment was called the Bedford Grill.

Number 18 seems to have taken a lease from
1st March 2008.
By 24th March 2009 the owners had re-possessed
the property, the rent presumably being overdue
for more than 2 or 3 weeks.

The new tenants, RED, have at last (Sep. 2009)
posted their opening hours in the window, viz. :-
On Thursdays 9 p.m. to 2.30 a.m.
Fridays and Saturdays 8 p.m. to 4.30 a.m.
Therefore the place was operating virtually as
a night-club; albeit with pre-booked entertainment.

Continued . . .

  (contd.)

A complete change of emphasis had occurred by
late-November and the Karma Kafe looks set to
return to the days of Kafe Da, or even Hector's House;
including provision of "all-day breakfasts."

This latest re-incarnation is the brainchild of
Sarah Jane Roberts (see separate notes).
The prolonged use of RED paint has come to an end.

Wild Man : 29 Bedford Street

Notes ..

The pub was enlarged in late 1982. It is still a
one-room pub, with a very long bar on one side.

Listed in the Woodforde's Pub Guide, June 2009.
Likewise in 2011.

Punch Taverns gave the pub a makeover in 2011,
with a much smarter external appearance and a
new (if controversial?) sign.

The long bar was retained at the express wish of
the landlord, who sadly died in the same year.

Karaoke - open mic nights on Thursday are very popular.
Landlady Mrs. Mandy Thwaites understands that
the pub jukebox is said to be the busiest in the city.
