Whitefriars : group 9

. . . 9 pubs in this group . . . 1 still serving.

Meaning of symbols

This group is named after the short section of
Whitefriars' Street which leads from Palace Plain
to the River Wensum.
Previously this stretch comprised the whole street,
i.e. before Cowgate (South) was re-named.

Just possibly, in much earlier times, Whitefriars' Street
may have extended as far as Fishergate; as a small part
of St. Martin's Parish did/does exist, remarkably,
on the other side of the river.

The group also includes pubs on the
Eastern fringes of Palace Plain,
in World's End Lane and at the start of Bishopgate.

Listing
The list begins at Whitefriars Bridge, soon joining the Plain,
then turning left, eventually into World's End Lane.
Exiting from the Lane, it continues behind the Eastern end of
St. Martin's Church into Bishopgate.
