Having closed the pub on 1st April 1941 for the
duration of WWII (although not notifying
the Authorities until 9th May), brewers S. & P.
allegedly "re-opened" it in late January 1945.

This was obviously a ploy, as the licence was in
the hands of the brewery 'rep.' by 13th February.

According to plan, the licence was transferred to
The Loaf, Rackham Road 27.8.1945

Tenants of the current (2011) enterprise are
sisters Gilly Mixer (58) and Sue Skipper (60).
They have been in place for 35 years i.e.
since c. 1976.
