** See Research for earlier details.

As the Noir Bar, their policy was to open as late as
3 p.m. The complete closures on Sunday to Wed.
may be a feature of the Winter schedule only.
In January 2010 closure times were : midnight
(Thursday) or 2 a.m. (Friday and Saturday)

Café facility from March 2010
Opening times for the café (teas, coffees etc.) are
from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., all days except Sunday.
It is not at all clear whether the 3 p.m. opening for the
bar, and the pub closure times, are still as stated above.
It may be significant that the website is still unavailable.

Another Newcomer
Unsurprisingly, the premises were again closed
in late March. The owners of the Wine Cellar were
allegedly involved in the Noir Bar failure.

In May the business re-opened under yet another
odd name; under the aegis of the owners of the
nearby Havana Bar.

Bizarrely, it was probably Knowhere who painted
much of the outside matt-black i.e. Noir.
A departure is the holding of Salsa dance classes
on Tuesdays.
As before, no "daytime" opening is mentioned,
and the pub operates from 6 p.m. at best.

Owners are listed as Knowhere Bar Ltd., who treat
the premises mainly as a nightclub, and are happy
to charge for entry.

On 25th November 2011 the firm passed into
Administration. It is hardly a co-incidence that,
a matter of days before, Havana changed its name
to KARTEL.

Back to the Future
By February 2012 the wheel had come full circle,
as far as Indulging Gastros are concerned.
They have returned, as owners, to the site of an
earlier failure; but with a quite different agenda.

This time the building is being used explicitly
as a nightclub;  knowhere having been used
mainly as such, despite its "Bar" part-title.
Yet more external re-decoration has been accompanied
by the effect of a circus Big Top on its ceiling.

The principal aim is to bring more live music
to young people in the city centre.
Danny Banthorpe, marketing manager, has
a team from a music and events background,
and we'll be looking to use Carnival as a
warm-up venue for this year's Play Fest.

Note: Play Fest takes place in May at Quidenham,
near Attleborough.

Yates' Wine Lodge : 7 - 9 Queen Street
Notes ..

Opened on 8th November 1999, the house was
stated to be the 77th branch in the country.
By August 2004 it had a non-smoking area -
in anticipation?

As the Slug & Lettuce from May 2008,
there is provision for two real ales.

The full width of the premises, at the rear, has a
conservatory (for poor weather); and a large,
square garden beyond (for better weather).

The 'garden', however, consists
almost entirely of decking.

In early June 2011 the pub closed.
The owners were said to be Town & City Pub Group,
and they sold out to Inventive Leisure - who
currently own the Revolution vodka bar opposite.

One can hardly hold one's breath for the next
6 to 8 weeks, when the re-opened pub will be part of
Inventive Leisure's new Revolucion de Cuba concept.

Bank Tavern : 8 -10 Bank Street

Notes ..

Orgasmic : Queen Street
Notes ..

There is provision for seats outside
on the pedestrian way.

The Orgasmic Café was closed by 18th July 2010.
(See Research for change of ownership details).

The new Revolution was opened towards
the end of August.

Adverts in February 2011 concentrate solely on
the food side of the business.
2 for 1 offers on Mondays and Tuesdays are
for burgers and pizzas respectively.

A Privilege card for £4 allows a 25% discount for food
eaten between 2 and 6 p.m. any day (max. 6 per table)

Royal Hotel : 23 Bank Plain

Notes ..
The interior is furnished with Moroccan fittings
to create a laid-back bar/club atmosphere.
Most evenings there are special musical happenings,
but with a charge on the door.
(Adrian Hennessy, August 2004)

The name change in 2010 was foreshadowed by
the installation of a huge new sound system on
15th September 2010.
The new name may have taken hold a bit later.

The principal owners,  Eclectic Clubs and Bars,
have Lola Lo and Po Na Na as subsidiaries.
There is little hope of using the 'bar' as a pub
- quite apart from the opening hours - as suggested
in the following advert :-

Continued . . .

  (contd.)

Lola Lo is an intimate South Pacific bar and club.
They offer a dazzling array of cocktails, champagnes
and rums.
Their mixologists have perfected some of the most
flamboyant, classic and bespoke cocktails.

    Monday - TRASHED
    Tuesday - Retail Night
    Wednesday - International Student Party
    Thursday - Fat Poppadaddy's
    Friday - Tiki Beats
    Saturday - Zombie Nation
    Sunday - Day of rest!!
Po Na Na, its predecessor, was described as a Souk Bar. Lola Lo uses the expression Tiki Bar.
