Magpie : 34 Magpie Road

Notes ..
In August 2007, Adrian Hennessy noted that the pub
had been "knocked-through" in recent years;
but that two large rooms remained.

So far the new owners (since 2010)
have not shown their hand at all.

Spread Eagle : 35 Sussex Street
Notes ..

Part of the Punch Taverns empire, the pub freehold
had been on offer since October 2009.
An auction sale is being held in July 2010
in Ipswich !!

It was closed in November 2008, allegedly for
re-furbishment.
Reported as open by the following 14th May,
it was found fully boarded-up by 20th July.

It was re-opened from September 2009; and the tenant
since has been a temporary manager, pending a sale.

Customers wanting to sample beers etc. on offer have
to run the gauntlet of a large Alsation dog. Not me.

The last tenants appear to have operated since
early-November 2009, and served until 3rd July 2010.

The buyer at the auction is a local Norwich couple
who are applying for Planning permission to
convert to a private house.
They paid £135,000.

They claim that neighbours have been
very positive about the plans, and that
complaints about excessive noise may have
caused the pub closures in the first place.
